Web TV is very different than other internet TV options.  Web TV is a service run by Microsoft through the MSNTV service.  It is a subscription service with extra hardware requirements. WebTV requires a TV Set Top box that connects to the internet and streams TV and web services such as email and pictures to your existing TV. When you visit http://www.msntv.com/pc/buy/ you will notice, that the hardware is no longer available.

Rather than use a subscription service for Online TV, we suggest using a One-Time fee package that offers the same convenience without the monthly fees. Face it, we are already paying the internet connection fees, and sometimes TV service fees, why pay more for TV through the internet? Isn’t the point to have more access to content with less cost?

The only monthy service I pay for outside of my internet connection is Netflix. I pay for this simple because I can order DVDs for my 4 year old and regulate the amount of time she can use them.  Otherwise, I really like the selection of documentaries offered on the Netflix streaming site.  Most of the internet TV options are one-time-fee programs that offer unlimited access afterwards that you can stream from pc to tv.  This differs greatly from the web TV software option.
